Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joins the OpenPOWER Foundation
Dec. 15th , 2014 ... James Lin today announced Shanghai Jiao Tong University has joined the OpenPOWER Foundation, an open development community based on the POWER microprocessor architecture.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University joins a growing roster of technology organizations working collaboratively to build advanced server, networking, storage and acceleration technology as well as industry leading open source software aimed at delivering more choice, control and flexibility to developers of next-generation, hyperscale and cloud data centers. The group makes POWER hardware and software available to open development for the first time, as well as making POWER intellectual property licensable to others, greatly expanding the ecosystem of innovators on the platform.
The supercomputer “π” built in Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of top supercomputers around Chinese universities. The High Performance Computing Center (HPCC) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is also one of the top centers all over the universities in China and NVIDIA CUDA Center of Excellence. HPCC promotes research and teaching on campus, provides supercomputing services , computational science and engineering for scientists, researcher, staff and students in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
“We are very glad to be a member of the OpenPower Foundation. Hoping we can contribute to it.“ says James Lin (Vice Director of HPCC).
“The development model of the OpenPOWER Foundation is one that elicits collaboration and represents a new way in exploiting and innovating around processor technology,” says Michelle Hunt (Executive Director of OpenPOWER Foundation). “With the Power architecture designed for Big Data and Cloud, new OpenPOWER Foundation members like Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will be able to add their own innovations on top of the technology to create new applications that capitalize on emerging workloads.”
